Daily Schedule
Our schedule is flexible depending on weather and will be customized based on children’s interests. Some days may include walking field trips and visits to nearby Quail Park.
A typical day at Aspen Academy
* 9:00 - Welcome
- Children & adults sign-in; hand-washing
* 9:00 to 10:00 - Active Learning
- Children self-select activities in areas they would like to work. After they finish with one activity, they are welcome to move on to others (i.e., dramatic play, blocks, sensory table, easel, table art, manipulatives, writing center, or
library).
* 10:00 to 10:15 - Clean-up time & hand-washing
* 10:15 to 10:35 - Snack time
- Served family-style
* 10:35 to 11:25 - Outdoor Play
- Children participate in self-selected outdoor activities (i.e., sand box, gardening, play structure, or organized games & activities, such as scavenger hunts & obstacle courses)
* 11:25 to 11:30 - Hand-washing
* 11:30 to 11:45 - Large Group (Circle Time)
- The class comes to together for music & movement activities and a focused group activity (i.e., flannel board, books, stories with props, etc...)
* 11:45 to 12:00 - Small Group
- Children will meet in groups of three to five with one teacher and engage in a purposeful group activity together (i.e., cooperative games or building, books &
stories, etc...)
* 12:00 to 12:30 - Hand-washing & Lunch
- Children bring healthy lunches from home and an adult sits with the children at each table. Children clean-up after themselves and prepare for outdoor play.
* 12:30 to 1:00 - Outdoor Play (see aforementioned description)
* 1:00 - Good-bye!
After-Care Schedule
* 1:00 to 1:15 - Continued Outdoor Play
* 1:15 to 1:45 - Hand-washing & Quiet Time
- Children will find their resting mats and rest (or engage in a quiet activity).
* 1:45 to 2ish - Hand-washing & Snack
* 2:00 to 3:00 - Flexible Time
-Activities are dependent upon the overall mood of the group, interests, weather, etc... Possible options include: (a)Nature walks, (b) Quail Park, (c) Active learning in classroom areas, and (d) Outdoor play
* 3:00 - After-care goodbye!
Weekly Schedule
School is in session Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with an optional after-care program from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays. Families have the option of enrolling two to five days a week.
Yearly Calendar
Aspen Academy is in session Mondays through Fridays during the academic school year. Typically, we will follow the Bend-LaPine school district’s calendar and weather-related closures. Our 2012 summer program runs June 25th through August 17th, 2011.
